CIO Message | August 2022

Dear Colleagues,

My commitment is to ensure that our academic, administration and research partners are provided with a monthly, campus-wide view of our IT Services (ITS) project portfolio as outlined in our IT Executive Dashboard. The goal is to enable transparency in our work and ensure that you are well informed as it relates to projects underway.  In addition to our dashboard, a few notable highlights are shown below.

  • The LMS Transformation program, scheduled to conclude at the end of Fall 2022, finalized the decommissioning plans for the Common Collaboration and Learning Environment (CCLE) to occur in the months ahead.
  • The ASCEND project planning and assessment phase for the Procurement and Financial go-lives is in progress with implementation kick offs planned for September 2022 and October 2022 respectively.
  • The FACET Steering Committee plans to make a recommendation to the Executive IT Board to extend the Go-Live. This is in response to an assessment performed over the past several months relative to the maturity of Oracle’s Student Financial Planning (SFP) product, the need to fully understand business requirements of all units and academic levels, and the time necessary to realize transformational opportunities.
  • Our focus on cybersecurity continues as we endeavor to protect the UCLA community from cyber threats. The Security Transformation program has started up two new initiatives related to Identity and Access Management and Security Awareness called Bruin Secure. Our teams will be engaging with the broader UCLA community in the coming weeks and we're committed to collaborating and working together with you through this effort.
  • Bruin Voice—our campus deployment of Zoom phone—commenced in early August.  This initiative, planned over the next year, will modernize voice services for UCLA and eliminate costly hardware.
  • Customer Experience is foundational to all the work that we do in IT Services. We recently launched this program to (1) perform an initial assessment that will inform a roadmap to elevate the IT customer experience at UCLA as well as (2) optimize ways of working, processes, and systems in support of this effort. Many of you may be contacted to participate in this assessment and I thank you in advance for your support.

Please continue to provide your feedback in our POPin survey. Your input helps us refine our reporting and communication process.

I look forward to sharing the executive summary with you regularly on the third week of each month.

Thank you,
Lucy Avetisyan
