IT Services supports a private Motorola 800 MHz radio system (UCLA Radio System) to provide portable and mobile radio coverage throughout the UCLA campus, Center for Health Sciences (CHS), RRUMC/Medical Plaza, and between campus and designated off-campus locations such as UA South student apartments and Santa Monica Hospital and the surrounding clinics.
The UCLA Radio System is only for official campus business. It is primarily for use by the UC Police Department (UCPD), Campus Fire Marshal, Hospital Security, Santa Monica-UCLA Hospital Operations, Environment Health & Safety, Facilities Management, Parking Enforcement, and Parking Services, all of whom perform emergency services functions. Customers can purchase or lease individual radio units. Rentals are available on a monthly or weekly basis for special events. The 800 MHz radio communications system for UCLA provides two-way radio coverage throughout the UCLA campus, Center for the Health Sciences, Medical Plaza, and between campus and designated off-campus locations such as Santa Monica Hospital and UA South apartments. Portable coverage through hand-held and/or mobile radios are used by various UCLA Community Safety campus customers including the Police Department, Fire, CHS Security, and Environmental Health and Safety. Other customers such as Facilities Management, Parking Enforcement, and Parking Services also use the radios for daily support functions.
