The TRS application interfaces with the payroll system to get employees paid accurately on time.
It utilizes the UC time and attendance business rules to capture all hour types including work hours, vacation, sick, comp time used, leave without pay (LWOP), voting, and jury duty. TRS also computes overtime, shift differential, and holiday pay. It then uploads information to the Payroll Personnel System (PPS) for payment processing. TRS is one of the widely used time reporting systems by the departments at UCLA.

TRS is one of the widely used time reporting systems by the departments at UCLA. Other systems performing similar functions include Kronos and HBS time and attendance system. TRS features custom-built functionalities for UC time and attendance business rules and processes:
- Includes a traceable work flow from the timesheet initiation to PPS update allowing easy identification of error
- Allows for multiple appointments and funding sources, a special case occurs often in academic HR
- Allows departmental personnel to assign a job identifier or nickname to each job title at their the convenience
- Ensures time and attendance compliance with UC-wide regulations and policies
