Some Dell Computers Affected by eDellRoot Self-Signed Root Certificate
Dell was recently discovered to have the same self-signed root Certificate Authority (CA) and private key pre-installed on some of its computers.
What’s the Security Risk of eDellRoot?
The same self-signed root CA and private key used across multiple systems makes it possible to intercept secure information sent by a user, as well as allowing attackers to sign code and have it masquerade as legitimate software.
Which Dell Computers Are Infected?
The certificate has so far been verified on the following Dell computers:
- Inspiron 7000 (laptop and desktop)
- Dell Orchid Touch
- Dell t-4034
More models are likely to have been affected.
