Planned Fiber Outage Feb 15-18 for North and Central Campus
We’d like to make you aware of a planned fiber outage for campus, scheduled for February 15-18, 2019.
Why is the outage necessary?
The outage is required to reroute a major fiber optic cable that feeds most of the North and Central campus, around the new Anderson Graduate School of Management Tower construction site. The existing three cables (Cables D, E and F) run directly through the construction site, so they must be rerouted to a newly-built pathway. As part of the relocation, we must cut the three fiber optic cables, reroute to the new pathway and then re-splice each cable. We will cut and splice one cable segment each night, for a total of three nights. When we cut each fiber optic cable, the buildings associated with the cut segment will briefly lose network and internet connectivity. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid this outage.
When will the outage happen?
In order to minimize the impact, we’ll schedule the outage for three consecutive evenings, starting at 11 p.m. and completing by 7 a.m. each morning (eight hours). Cable D will be rerouted on February 15, Cable E on February 16, and Cable F on February 17.
Who will be affected by the outage?
During the work, the buildings associated with each cable will be impacted. North and Central campus buildings will be affected.
When will we know more?
We’ll send additional correspondence and schedule information for each segment and the affected buildings, to our affected customers.
