Campus Wireless Expansion Project
Last fall, and in partnership with the Office of Instructional Development, we finished enabling wireless connectivity for all 192 general assignment (GACnet) classrooms. This initiative brought new and significant value to faculty and students by encouraging collaboration, accommodating a variety of learning preferences, and increasing access to information.
We also recently upgraded and migrated the School of Law’s wireless network—which supports approximately 1,600 faculty, staff and students—to the campus wireless network. Currently, we are expanding connectivity to Life Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, University Extension, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and other under-connected areas on campus.
Through all stages of this expansion, we’ve been working with the Campus Wireless Advisory Group to coordinate the roadmap for access point deployments and establish standards for integration with departmental networks. Our ultimate goal is for all members of the UCLA community, including guests and visitors, to have access to a secure and robust wireless network while they are on campus.
